Board of Directors
 
Founded in June 2006, the GTA Rewards Association is a not-for-profit, volunteer-based entity comprised of over 350 members. The Association is led by a Board of Directors with the collaboration of an Advisory Board. A team of volunteers support the Board to ensure our membership represented as initiatives are planned. All members are welcome to attend and participate in the Annual General Meeting held each year. Decisions made by the Board follow the policy guidelines set out in governing articles.

Vanessa Lewerentz Vanessa Lewerentz

Vanessa has been an active member of the GTA Rewards Association. She is deeply committed to the ongoing development of the total rewards and human resources profession through fostering continuing learning, building networks of professionals and knowledge sharing.

Vanessa has extensive HR and Total Rewards experience, across the financial services and entertainment sectors. She has had progressive roles with responsibility for compensation, pensions, benefits, governance, market intelligence, workforce strategy and analytics enabling human capital management routines.

She also brings with her volunteer experience from a diverse range of professional and nonprofit agencies, including being an active member the Standards Council of Canada ISO 260, and board member of Durham Mental Health Services.

Vanessa is currently Director, Executive Compensation at Royal Bank of Canada (RBC).


Chris Lee Chris Lee

Chris is Vice President, Marketing & Communications at Accompass, a division of Gallagher Benefit Services, a human resources company with expertise in Executive & Broad-based Compensation, Benefits & Health, and Investment & Retirement. Chris plays a key role in keeping Accompass’s clients up to date on the latest industry trends, news, and developments that matter to our clients. Chris is responsible for managing the firm’s brand, advertising, sponsorship, event management, communications, digital marketing and social media, thought leadership, PR and media relations, design, presentations, and email marketing.

He has 20 years of experience in the financial services industry, most recently as Director, Corporate Brand & Marketing at one of Canada’s largest insurance companies, where he was for six years, before joining our firm in 2014. He managed an in-house creative team, and played a leadership role in building and managing the brand and its standards. He has also been an account director for one of Canada’s largest banks at a Toronto-based creative agency.

Chris has published articles in Canadian HR Reporter, Plans & Trusts Magazine, and has been featured as a speaker at various conferences, including HRPA, CPBI, WorldatWork Total Rewards, IFEBP, Benefits Breakfast Club, GTA Rewards Association, CUHR, Presidents of Enterprising Organizations, and Conference Board of Canada.


Manny Campione Manny Campione

Manny is the Market Leader and Principal with Normandin Beaudry in Toronto.

He has worked across multiple industries over the past 25 years in Human Resources leading teams in total rewards, employee engagement, leadership development, organizational effectiveness and workforce planning with LoyaltyOne, Aon(Hewitt), Starbucks, Scotiabank, CIBC and Canadian Tire.

Manny's industry and consulting experience, along with his passion for working with clients, ensures that Business and HR leaders leverage relevant solutions to impact organizational objectives. He is a trusted advisor, coach and thought leader in the Canadian HR community.


Ali Akgunes Ali Akgunes

Ali has strong volunteer experience across multiple organizations, having served as a Trustee and Co-Chair of the Board at the University of East London. He is passionate about the total rewards profession and how he can contribute to its advancement. Ali is originally from the UK and relocated to Canada in 2015. His experience is predominantly in financial services with a consultancy background, including global rewards as well as UK and Canada-centric compensation practices. His experience in total rewards spans 3 organizations in progressively senior roles with local and global remits and, is currently the AVP, Performance & Reward at HSBC Canada.

Ali holds a B.A. in Politics from University College London, UK, a Master’s in Human Resources from University of East London, UK, and is former member of CIPD (UK Professional HR Association).


Asuncion Dorotheo Asuncion Dorotheo

A member of the GTA Rewards Association since inception, Asuncion has been a volunteer on both the Membership and Communications Committees prior to joining the Board as Treasurer in 2012.

Asuncion has over 15 years of experience as a rewards professional in both consulting and financial industry firms. Her experience includes executive compensation, policy and program design, job evaluation, global mobility, market assessments, compensation tool re-design and governance activities.

Asuncion is currently Director, Compensation at the Royal Bank of Canada.


Kate Beckett Kate Beckett

An active member of the GTA Rewards Association since 2009, Kate heads up the Member Engagement portfolio where she is focused on driving member engagement as well as overseeing the annual membership campaign. She previously served as Board Secretary from 2011-2013.

Kate Beckett has over 15 years of rewards and HR experience across a variety of industries in Canada and the United States. Her specialties include compensation strategy, incentive plan design, executive compensation, benefits, retirement and recognition. Kate holds a B.A. in Psychology from Canisius College in Buffalo, NY, a Master’s in Business Administration from Wilfrid Laurier University and is a Certified Compensation Professional (CCP).

Kate is currently the Vice President, Total Rewards and HR Technology with Indigo Books & Music.


Nadia Savino Nadia Savino

Nadia has been an active member of the GTA Rewards Association since 2014 and a volunteer with the Board since 2015, supporting the Events portfolio and most recently as Assistant Secretary. Currently in the role of Secretary, she plays a critical role in fostering communication and diligence through proper meeting minutes and adherence to the bylaws. Nadia is passionate about the Total Rewards profession and is excited to contribute to the Association by bringing people in the community together to network and learn from each other through the various offerings that the Association provides.

Her experience is predominantly in the financial services industry holding progressively more senior roles first at RBC and then most recently at TD Bank where she is currently a Manager in Compensation Advisory. Nadia holds a B.B.A from the Schulich School of Business where she specialized in Strategic Management and Organizational Behavior.


Rahim Bhayani Rahim Bhayani

Rahim serves as the Managing Director of Principle Rewards Consulting, a boutique consulting firm he established to focus on the design, implementation and communication of compensation plans for executives as well as broad-based employees. In his role, Rahim focuses specifically on using technology and automation to enhance the ROI of the compensation function.

Prior to establishing his consulting firm, Rahim served as the global Head of Total Rewards & HR Shared Services for OMERS. In that role, Rahim was accountable for leading a team that designs and delivers Total Rewards solutions in support of the business and people strategy. Rahim’s mandate includes building and implementing a Digital People Platform strategy that leveraged HR technology to enable business growth. Rahim also established the Compensation, Global Mobility and Recognition Centre of Excellence teams during his time at OMERS.

Prior to joining OMERS, Rahim served as the Senior Director of Compensation, Global Mobility & HR Operations at Domtar, a Fortune 500 company. Prior to Domtar, Rahim led the global compensation design and advisory teams for the Wealth Management, Wholesale Banking and Insurance business units at TD Bank Group. Prior to TD, Rahim spent several years as a compensation consultant in the US with Deloitte & EY.

Over the course of a 19 year career in Total Rewards, Rahim has worked on a variety on compensation design, executive compensation, salesforce compensation, M&A due diligence, post-transaction integration and other Total Rewards related projects with public and private companies, in North America as well as Europe and Latin America.

Rahim is a graduate of The College of Wooster in the US where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Economics. Rahim is a Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) and has served as a speaker on various roundtable panels and conferences. Rahim is also an active member of the Total Rewards community in Toronto and serves as an industry advisor to McLagan (mclagan.aon.com/), CompTrak (comptrak.com) and League Benefits (https://league.com/ca/).
